MY FARRIER NZ

My Farrier has been presenting at NZPCA Conference!

From Kentucky, USA at the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital to giving a seminar and dissection at the New Zealand Pony Club Association's Conference at Ambury Park then back to the forge to be filmed by Country 99 TV for the new series Horsing Around NZ.

The Seminar for the NZPCA conference was fantastic, was informative and enjoyed by all, so much so not only did Marcel run well over time but I think he could possibly have gone all day! (food for thought, maybe we could organise My Farrier NZ to come to your neck of the woods and do a dissection / farrier demo in your area contact us with your ideas!).  The conference was well run and Marcel was followed by Warwick Behrnes fromNZ Equine Dentistry http://www.horsebusiness.co.nz/ who was amazing also, telling us the percentage of what we know, versus what we know we don't know and then what we don't know we don't know!
The red is what we don’t know we don’t know! Anyway fantastic time had by all seeing the inner workings of not only the hoof but the forelimb also, as Marcel dissected and pulled apart a leg (not on the horse of course). We are very lucky to be donated legs for research and to learn from, as with humans it is an important part of learning to see how things work without hurting a live animal and so that more importantly the learning’s can help save lives! Be in touch with us should you want a seminar, dissection or if we could look at something else that may help your area, we are always open to ideas!

MAURER EQUESTRIAN

LATEST NEWS FROM THE MAURER TEAM: FARRIER - MY FARRIER NZ:

October

FoxtonFoxton was our first 2* show of the season. Blue had his first 2* grand prix start and jumped a clear first round to finish 4th after having one down in the jump off. Adeaze was placed in the 1.25m championship and Cassanova AF and CoDicea both jumped clear rounds over the weekend.

Gisborne The weather in Gisborne was fantastic for their annual A&P show and the grounds were so well prepared. We had a great show with Blue winning the Young Rider class in a 3 horse jump off with Luke Dee and Jake Lambert and Adeaze finished 4th in her first young rider start with us. Blue had the last rail in the Gisborne Herald 2* grand prix to finish 5th. Maurice Beatson did a super fast and clear jump off to take the win. Thanks to Diana Dobson for writing this article that made front page of the Gisborne Herald, topped off a wonderful weekend ! http://www.gisborneherald.co.nz/article/?type=article&id=25001

MastertonWe decided to skip Hawkes Bay this year and head down to Masterton instead. Blue came 5th in the Grand Prix on the first day and had a lucky win in the young rider after I missed the finish flags in the jump off but my time still managed to be slightly faster that 2nd place getter, Luke Dee. I really don't plan on ever giving the competition a 5 second head start again ! Adeaze also jumped a fantastic round to be the only 4 faulter out of 15 starters to finish 4th so I was very pleased. Dakota AF shone in the showhunter with placings in all of her classes and Cassanova AF jumped clear rounds over the weekend again. Congrats to Lisa Coupe for not only taking out the grand prix but also the super league for this show on two different horses !I just want to thank Stirrups Equestrian for our new "Blue" themed animo gear. Keep an eye out at the upcoming November shows !Thank you to the Leslie family for giving me the ride on Adeaze for this part of the season. She is now back with Anna now she is home from University and we wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.

SCHOLARSHIP

National Final Farriers Competition - Marcel a Winner:

Attending the National Farriers competition in Fielding at the local A&P show, Marcel came home winner of the National High Points Overall and Machine Made, with placings in many other classes.  The overall High Points is the points gathered over the shows during the season and most importantly at the National show itself.  For Marcel it was quite an honor to come home with the shield and having his name up there with mentors such at Pat Schimanski, Jim Bryant and Rodney King.

The Machine made was an important competition to Marcel as it represents the "Every Day Job" and shows what a great standard this is completed at.

Now is time to reflect and think about the future of My Farrier NZ. With the drums beating that there is a strong chance of a scholarship to the amazing Rood & Riddle Equine Clinic in Kentucky next year alongside Vet Neil Houston from Veterinary Associates.
